Should I Get a Laminator?

Though laminators add to the overall cost of the unit, they pay for themselves by increasing the durability and security of your cards. Laminating over your card protects it from dirt, scratches, spills, and drops. With most laminators, you can even add UV protection, holographic images, and more just by switching out different laminate ribbons. Most colleges and universities use laminators because student and faculty cards are typically taken in and out of a wallet all day to access buildings and pay for food and supplies at student centers. Without lamination, there would be a constant line for replacement cards with credentials that have worn away. Any business, school, or government facility that issues ID’s which are constantly displayed or used would benefit from lamination.

Do I Need Encoding?

If you are new to encoding, it may feel a bit overwhelming. Which option do I choose? Loosely-Coupled or Single-Wire? What brand? The list goes on. We're here to help. First, if you are replacing a current printer, look for that printer's model number. If you search this SKU on our website, that should reveal if there is currently an encoder in the unit and what encoder it is. Then it's as simple as selecting the same encoder on your next purchase. However, if you are starting from scratch, it is best to contact whoever is in charge of your access control system in order to get details on the card technology your business or campus is using. If you're still not sure, we are always a phone call or email away. Contact us at (877) 379-8844 or email customerservice@jobrien.com. One of our certified technical specialists will walk you through exactly what you need, free of charge.
